Our Jobu Design Monopod Gimbal Head is here!
Turn your monopod into a super-lightweight gimbal head!
The MPH-1 lets you shoot on a monopod (like the Jobu Design Pelee), or any compatible monopod with a 3/8"-16 thread***. We have left generous depth of threads so that you don't bottom out the screw, allowing the full depth of engagement for maximum strength.
Steps: Mount the MPH-1 to your monopod. Rotate the lens collar on your lens to 90 degrees, mount your camera to the MPH-1, and shoot away with comfort and control. A monopod is much easier to move around small, dense woods than a tripod. We still love tripods, but not every situation is the same.
You can also convert a ballhead into a side-mounted gimbal head very easily. If you want to use it on a ballhead make sure it is Arca-Swiss compatible and has space for safety screws (we include 2x M3 screws with our MPH-1). This will avoid it sliding out and crashing your equipment unexpectedly.
Requires:
- Monopod with 3/8"-16 thread
- Or a ballhead with Arca-Swiss compatible clamp
Inludes:
- 2x pc M3 x 0.5mm safety screws
- 2.5mm stainless hex key
Weight: 368g, Size: 11 x 9 x 8 cm
Usage Notes:
- Weight Limit: You aren't going to damage the MPH-1 with any reasonable camera equipment. That being said, can you hold up a 10-15lb lens with one hand on a monopod? There is far more danger in toppling your equipment, or inadequately securing it than there is in failure of the MPH-1 from any design point of view.
- Load your camera and lens, and install them in the MPH-1 and test them indoors, over a cushion, or over a carpet! Don't wait until you are outside to figure out you can't hold things upright.
- Ensure you have a GOOD lens foot (a replacement foot is BEST), or a decent lensplate with more than one mounting hole. Sidemounting lenses can result in twisting/unscrewing your lensplate. Without due care, you are going to drop your lens.
- Make sure the MPH-1 is adequately secure to your monopod. Check frequently to make sure it isn't unscrewing.
*** You can use an 3/8" to 1/4" adapter, but we don't recommend it. If your monopod only has a 1/4"-20 threaded monopod stud then it likely isn't strong enough or durable enough for long term use.***
